One suggestion; it would blend less harshly if you filled the gaps in with a really dark grey instead of 100% black.

When you fill in the gaps, can’t you just hold alt and press backspace, or is it a mac?

edit transform the control/CTRL key on your keyboard when u hold down that press T its a shortcut to speed up photo editing

free transform, if your on a pc then its control T or alt T
